Cuadro fine art gallery to showcase rare glimpse into the “method to the madness” behind artistic expression, and sculptural interplay with “on paper” exhibition
Cuadro Fine Art Gallery will be showcasing two distinct exhibitions this month, entitled “Method to the Madness” and “On Paper” from December 13th, 2011.
“Method to the Madness”, on display from 13th December 2011 to 1st February 2012, will feature works by young artists Jowhara AlSaud, Noor Al Suwaidi and Athier. The exhibition will present a unique journey into the minds of all three artists, as their finished works are accompanied by doodles, notes, sketches and other peripheral materials generally found in an artist's studio.
Typically, artworks presented in exhibition spaces do not invite audience participation, since the artworks are presented as completed objects, in and of themselves. As such, the audience assumes the role of casual observer when viewing these artworks, however, in "Method to the Madness," Cuadro attempts to alter this paradigm by sharing the process of artistic choice and the evolutionary nature of the creation of art.
“On Paper” will run from 13th December 2011 to 12th January 2012, where Cuadro will present the works of Dale Chihuly and Samer Tabbaa, both acclaimed sculptors who view drawing as two-dimensional sculpture. The exhibition will illustrate the interplay between the creation of figurative works and the subtractive nature of abstraction. By integrating sculptural elements and materials into the delicate medium of paper, both artists have found innovative means of marking a surface and examining the paradigm between line and space.
“With people becoming more interested in the creative process and the emotional context of artworks, we felt it was time to curate an exhibition which enables viewers to experience the journey of creation, from the point of view of the artist themselves, thus ‘Method to the Madness’ was born. Simultaneously, Cuadro is presenting ‘On Paper’ which integrates aspects of sculpture with a less dimensional surface to create a uniquely expressive medium. Both shows offer remarkably different perspectives from emerging as well as established artists,” commented Bashar Al Shroogi, Director of Cuadro Fine Art Gallery.
